Dr. Adela Chavez got the Young Scientist Award at the TTP8 Conference

An award has been made available for an excellent young researcher in the field of Ticks and Tick-borne Pathogens for the joint TTP-8 and STVM-12 conference in Cape Town, South Africa.The TTP Young Scientist Award celebrates young researchers and their important contributions to the advancement of research regarding these important ectoparasites and their associated pathogens.

Dr. Adela Chavez, recruited at CIRAD Guadeloupe for a two year post-doc within the Epigenesis project is working on the mutagenesis of Ehrlichia ruminantium, the bacteria causing heartwater (a fatal disease for ruminants in Africa and in the Caribbean), and the identification of genes involved in the infection process of mammalian host cells.

She will present a 15 minute oral presentation at the meeting in Cape town to present on her scientific contribution on the research on Anaplasmatacea (Anaplasma marginale, Anaplasma phagocytophyllum and now E. ruminantium).
